PREVIEW: soundcloud.com/submerchants/preview-main-phase-daffy-stones-taro-columbia-road-sm003

After drip-feeding a trio of outrageous monthly singles from across the bass music and UK Garage spectrum, Sub Merchants finally unveil the full 6 track feature-length EP ‘Columbia Road’. Available both digitally and backed by a full run of 12’ vinyl - this EP sees each of the lead singles backed by a versatile and weighty B-side from Main Phase, Daffy and Stones Taro.

After delivering the ground-shaking ‘Smoke’ with Rakjay back in February, Main Phase steps up and delivers an absolute stomper for his second instalment with ‘Big Shaker’. Haunting pads, and shuffling drums leads the listener into a spaced out interlude before a looping vocal ushers in a raucous subbed up bassline at the drop. This one is a certified dance floor destroyer… mark our words.

Next up on the B2, Daffy lays down ‘Shaping up’ - a change in tact from his hard hitting first offering of ‘Ruffneck Sound’. This glistening tune is a masterclass in golden-hour sunset tracks, perfect for festival season.

Stones Taro rounds us off with the final track of the release, backing up his impressive acid-laden A-side ‘Knock My Ear’, with his octane breakbeat workout ’99’. The track comes sprinting out of the blocks, with fat shuffling drums and enough nostalgic junglist samples to make sure Hare Krishna remains a firm bad-boy. A big fat roaming bassline underpins the remainder of the track, littered with vocal stabs which will keep the dance floors moving.

Keeping up their breakneck momentum, Sub Merchants have delivered yet another stellar release with their all-star cast of some of the best in the game. ‘Columbia Road' is guaranteed to cause some serious damage this summer, with the 12” vinyl firmly in record bags and boxes of top-flight selectors.
